poesia eixo 2

With the presence of the Mayor of Oeiras, Dr. Isaltino Morais and the Commissioner of the Candidacy of Oeiras to the European Capital of Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, we present the strategy that wants to make Oeiras the Capital of Portuguese Language and Poetry and Cultures.

In this context, several projects are being developed which, having a strong presence in the program scheduled for 2027, are already launched in 2021: Poetry Prize of Oeiras, Mostra de Artes da Palavra, International Poetry Biennial of Oeiras, poesia.fm - Rádio Online, Culto, Palavras27, because Oeiras 27 is not just a candidacy, it is a development strategy.

The following projects are references of this strategy, which we will present more prominently on Friday:

The Oeiras Poetry Prize has its first edition in 2021. The jury, which analyzed more than 700 works in competition, distributed in two modalities: Consecration (about 100 works), Revelation (about 600 works). The work "Retratos com Erro", by the Brazilian poet Eucanaã Ferraz, won the Consagração prize, in the amount of 20 thousand euros. The Revelation award was attributed to the work "A Fagulha", by Pedro Teias, pseudonym of the Portuguese author Pedro Nuno Patada, in the amount of 5,000 euros.

The Mostra de Artes da Palavra (MAP) presents a great diversity of events that take place in various locations, allowing the creation of routes that cover the entire municipality of Oeiras. MAP is a multidisciplinary and transversal festival that explores the Word and its relationship with other disciplines as the central theme and driving force of the entire event. Poetry will be present in all forms: from music to visual arts, from conferences to workshops, from debates to conversations, from cuisine to citizenship, from school to public and media space. MAP is a way of redefining borders and territories, revisiting the real and reinventing our poetic imagery. With initiatives initiated in March 2021, the MAP takes place in the municipality of Oeiras and will culminate in a more intense period between 9 and 13 June 2021.

The first edition of the Oeiras International Poetry Biennial will take place between the 16th and 21st of November. In 2021, the theme “Power and Democracy” will be discussed, in the past, in the present and in the future and in all its declines and readings. From videopoetry to ecopoetry, through digital poetry, installations, shows, media arts, readings and conversations, the Parque dos Poetas and the Temple of Poetry pay homage to the art that gave them their name and their creators, in a unique event in Portugal.

Poesia.fm is an online radio exclusively dedicated to poetry. It will be launched in 2021 under the motto «Probably Europe's first poetry radio». From Oeiras, poetry.fm aspires to be: An open house to the world, an echo of so many voices, a window for the international dissemination of Oeiras as the capital of Portuguese Language and Poetry. A sound collection available to multiple audiences, still representing a valuable resource for teachers, educators and researchers. A reference in the Portuguese language radio panorama, but also global.

Culto is an audiovisual project - in nine episodes - that crosses poets and poems with readers, dancers and musicians. With the Temple of Poetry and the Parque dos Poetas as stage, the Cult is an excellent example of the investment we want to make in the coming years in the production of high quality audiovisual and multimedia content based on poetry.

All these projects and many others can be known in greater depth through the Palavras27 website that will work as an anchor in the online presence of Axis 2 (Oeiras. Capital of Portuguese Poetry and Cultures) of OEIRAS 27 (Candidacy of Oeiras European Capital of Culture in 2027).

The presentation will take place in the Salão Nobre of Palácio Marquês de Pombal, at 6 pm and you can follow it live on Facebook via OEIRAS 27.
